What happens if you get into a car accident and you don’t have health insurance?
Many people unfortunately at some point in their life will be involved in a car accident. So what happens if you get into an accident and are injured without any health insurance. Many people are stuck in this situation after an auto accident and are confused about their options. Some people make the mistake of not seeking medical help due to not having insurance. Here are some important points to understand:
1. You DO NOT need health insurance to seek treatment from an injury and many times treatment is covered by either yours or the other driver’s car insurance.
b. File a claim through your car insurance. You may have PIP (personal injury protection) coverage that will cover your expenses.
c. File a claim through the “at-fault” driver’s insurance if you are not at fault. Call their insurance and let them know you were injured in an accident or have your lawyer contact them directly.
d. Seek medical attention. This is extremely important to do as soon as possible due to the fact there is no coverage if you have no treatment. Furthermore, there is no injury without a medical diagnosis or evaluation by a doctor or chiropractor. Seek help from your MD or Chiropractor to establish the correct care for your injuries.
2. Following an accident, do I have to see a doctor “in-network” with my health insurance?
3. Do I need an attorney after my accident?
